SENATOR Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson fired back on Wednesday against former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, asserting that Cayetano’s calls to investigate him stem from his ongoing exposure of corrupt public officials and illicit infrastructure projects, particularly in Taguig City.
The row escalated after Cayetano suggested in a Facebook Live broadcast that Lacson targets political critics and operates under the protection of current administration allies.
Cayetano’s remarks followed a news report highlighting his demands for an inquiry into Lacson’s investigative motives.
Addressing the statements on social media, Lacson reframed Cayetano’s accusation, posting: “Translation: Lacson should be investigated for targeting corrupt public officials.”
The friction intensified after Lacson exposed illegal reclamation operations along portions of Laguna Lake—a key area in Cayetano’s political stronghold.
Lacson vowed to collaborate with state agencies to prosecute those responsible and forfeit reclaimed lands in favor of the national government.
Dismissing claims of political favoritism, Lacson emphasized that his commitment to accountability remains steadfast regardless of who holds power.
The lawmaker cited his past record as a law enforcer, where he repeatedly turned down bribes and resisted pressure from corrupt figures.
Lacson also pointed to his early years in the Senate under the Arroyo administration, during which critics falsely accused him of hiding millions in offshore accounts.
The former Blue Ribbon chair challenged accusers to audit the alleged bank accounts and keep any funds found; no money was discovered, the claims collapsed, and his accusers ultimately recanted.
Lacson reiterated that his primary agenda has consistently focused on dismantling corruption, protecting public assets, and holding wrongdoers accountable, regardless of political affiliations or local interests.
