Aksyon ng Red Cross laban sa climate change

DAHIL sa climate change, patuloy na lumulubha at dumarami ang natural
disasters na nakaaapekto sa buong bansa taon-taon.

Ito ang pangunahing dahilan kung bakit ipinaliwanag ni Dr. Gwen Pang,
secretary-general ng Philippine Red Cross (PRC) ang gagawin nilang pagkilos o
humanitarian responses laban dito.

Sinabi ni Pang nitong Nobyembre 5, sa Women Empowerment Assembly: Peace
and Sustainable Development of the International Council of Women na patuloy
na pinalulubha ng climate change ang mga natural na sakuna, na pumipinsala
hindi lamang sa Pilipinas, kundi maging sa maraming bansa sa buong mundo.

“By actively addressing climate change, we are actively contributing in promoting
peace and stability,” ayon kay Pang.

Ang kanyang pahayag ay naka-sentro sa kung paano kumikilos ang PRC para
matugunan ang epekto at augat ng climate change.

Kasama sa training ng PRC staff ang pagtugon sa climate change, capacity-
building programs, at educational materials para maitaas ang antas ng
kamalayan ng mga Pilipino.

Inihayag din ni Pam ang mga pagkilos ng PRC gaya ng “early warning and early
action protocols at community-based disaster risk reduction and preparedness”,
na naglalayung tulungan ang mga Pilipinong apektado ng mga natural na
sakuna.

Hinimok ni Pam ang lahat ng mga babaing lider na kasama sa naturang
pagtitipon, na lumikha ng action points at isama ang angkop na pagtugon laban
sa epekto ng climate change sa paglikha nang kani-kanilang polisiya.
