POWER distributor Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured its customers that electricity services will remain uninterrupted for those with unresolved billing disputes, addressing growing concerns circulating on social media regarding potential cutoffs.
“We would like to clarify that electricity service of Meralco customers with pending billing concerns will not be disconnected while their cases are under investigation,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
In addition to protecting accounts with ongoing complaints under review, the utility reminded consumers that a nationwide suspension on disconnections remains in effect for unpaid accounts covering the May to July 2026 billing cycles, following a directive issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
“We also reiterate that disconnection activities for all consumers with unpaid balances covering the May to July billing periods remain suspended,” Zaldarriaga added.
The public clarification follows recent online discussions and consumer confusion regarding billing statements and meter readings over the past few weeks.
Meralco encouraged consumers facing discrepancies or questions about their monthly statements to reach out directly through official customer service channels, assuring the public that each submitted issue is being reviewed and processed.
“We continuously address the concerns of all customers regarding their electricity bills, consumption, or meter reading through our official customer touch points,” Zaldarriaga noted. “Rest assured that we have been diligently reviewing and resolving every customer concern brought to our attention.”
