NILAGDAAN ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nitong Peb. 15 ang Republic Act (RA) No. 11978, na lumilikha sa college of medicine sa Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus sa bayan ng Agoo.
Sa ilalim ng RA No. 11978, bukod sa Doctor of Medicine Program, nag-aalok din ang unibersidad ng Integrated Liberal Arts.
“The program will consist of basic science and clinical courses… with the goal ‘to develop a corps of professional physicians to strengthen the health care system of the country’,” ayon sa Presidential Communications Office.
Ang Doctor of Medicine Program ay naglalayung tumugon sa pangangailangan sa mga doktor sa La Union pati na sa Ilocos Region.
Ayon sa isang estudyante ng unibersidad, malaking tulong daw sa mga nagnanais maging doktor ang pagbubukas ng kurso. Hindi na raw sila kailangang magtungo sa Maynila para mag-aral ng medisina.
