Paulit-ulit na libreng sakay ng 3,707 OFWs kinuwestyon ng CoA

KINUWESTIYON ng Commission on Audit (CoA) ang regional office ng Office ng
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), kung bakit libo-libong OFWs ay
paulit-ulit na nabigyan ng libreng plane tickets, pagkain, lodging, gamit ang pera ng
gobyerno sa kasagsagan ng Covid-19 pandemic.


Hindi lang minsan kundi limang ulit pang naitala na sumakay sa “repatriation flights”
pauwi ng bansa, mula Abril 2020 – Mayo 2022, o sa loob ng 26 na buwan, ang
marami sa 3,707 OFWs na inirekord bilang “overseas Filipinos in distress”.


Sinabi ng CoA na 88 percent o 3,250 sa OFWs na sumakay sa “repatriation flights” ay
sea-based.

hindi sila “OFWs in distress” kundi pauwi lamang sila nang natapos ang kontrata.

Dahil dito, nabawasan nang husto ang pondo ng ahensya.


Na-trace ng CoA auditors ang lahat na 3,707 “frequent flyers” mula sa OWWA Regional
Welfare Office 10 (Northern Mindanao), na nagsabing nagkaroon muna sila ng prior
clearance mula sa Central Office bago isinama ang mga pangalan sa “repatriation
flights”.


Sinabi ng ilang taxpayers na kailangang maimbestigahan at mapanagot ang diumano’y
maanomalyang paggastos ng OWWA sa pera ng bayan sa tila hindi naman “OFWs in
distress”.
