NAHAHARAP ang publiko, partikular ang mga nakatira sa Metro Manila, sa matinding
kakulangan sa tubig dahil sa patuloy na pagbagsak ng lebel ng tubig sa Angat Dam.

Ito ang iniulat ni Sonia Serrano, hydrologist ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical
and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).


Ang Angat Dam — na siyang nagsu-suplay ng 98 percent ng tubig sa Metro Manila
—ay may pagbaba ang lebel ng tubig sa average ng 0.9 metro (35.43 inches) magmula
Peb. 1-8.


Ayon pa kay Serrano, magmula pa noong Enero, patuloy na bumababa ang lebel ng
tubig sa Angat. Ganito rin ang trend sa iba’t ibang dam sa Luzon.


Nitong Peb. 8, ang water level ng Angat Dam ay 209 meters, (0.21 meter na mas
mababa kaysa nakaraang araw); Binga, 571.88 meters (0.62 meter mas mababa); San
Roque, 249.04 meters (0.27 meter mas mababa); Pantabangan, 191.56 meters (0.27
meter mas mababa); Magat, 182.29 meters (0.38 meter mas mababa), at Caliraya,
287.24 meters (0.16 meter mas mababa).

Sinabi ng Pagasa nitong Enero na magpapatuloy ang pagbaba ng lebel ng tubig sa mga
dam — dahil sa epekto ng El Niño — kung hindi magkakaroon ng malalakas na pag-
ulan.


Pinayuhan ni Serrano ang publiko na ugaliing magtipid sa tubig. Huwag daw hayaang
nakabukas ang gripo kung nagsisipilyo. Ipunin daw ang tubig na ginamit sa paglalaba
at gamitin ito para pambuhos sa toilet at panlinis.
