Breast cancer: 10-k ang namamatay sa bawat taon

UMAABOT sa halos 10,000 mga Pilipino ang namamatay dahil sa breast cancer ayon sa Philippine
Cancer Society (PCS)


Ayon kay Dr. Corazon Ngelangel, pangulo ng PCS, sa naitalang 27,163 nagka-cancer bawat taon, 9,906 dito ang namamatay. Mababa rin daw ang survival rate na 44.4 percent.


Sa mga naitalang kaso, 65 percent ang nada-diagnose na nasa advance o late stage na ang cancer.

Ito ay dahil sa kakulangan ng sapat na pasilidad at hindi kaagad ito nadi-detect nang maaga. Number one din ang breast cancer sa lahat ng uri ng cancer sa buong bansa.


Nagkakaroon din ng breast cancer ang mga lalaki, at isang porsyento sa bansa ay mula sa kanila.
Ayon kay Dr, Arthur Jason Go, pangulo, Philippine Society of Medical Oncology “Breast is the most
common cancer site in the Philippines and in other countries. It is followed by lung, colorectal and liver, so early screening education is important.”

Idinagdag pa niya na baka nahihiyang magpa-konsulta ang mga pasyente at pinoproblema nila ang malaking gastos sa treatment kaya hindi agad sila nagpapatingin sa doktor, habang maaga pa ang mga sintomas.


Hinihimok ni Go na kaagad magpakonsulta sa doktor, sakaling magkaroon nang pagbabago ang dibdib, kagaya ng bukol, para magamot agad ito.


Ayon pa sa PCS, ang mga babae ang mas madaling tamaan ng breast cancer, lalo na ang mga babaing nagkaroon ng menstruation bago mag-12 anyos, o nagka-menopause paglampas ng 55-anyos, yaong mga hindi nagka-anak o hindi nag-breast fed, may history ng breast cancer sa pamilya, nagka-lymphoma, gayon din ang hindi kontroladong paggamit ng birth control pills, at yaong sumailalim sa hormone replacement therapy.


Tandaan: pwedeng gumaling ang breast cancer kapag na-detect nang maaga.
