7-B lamang-dagat, 78 trilyong isda, ubos sa reclamation!

MATINDING gutom ang maaaring abutin ng milyon-milyong Pilipino sakaling matapos ang Manila Bay reclamation project.

Noon pang 2022, hinihiling na ni Sen. Risa Hontiveros sa ilalim ng Senate Res. No. 300 (SR 300), ang pagdinig ng Senado sa nai-report na malawakang reclamation projects sa buong Pilipinas.

Isa rin si Hontiveros sa mga mambabatas na humiling kamakailan sa gobyerno para kaagad kanselahin ang lahat ng reclamation projects sa bansa. Sa SR 300, sinipi ni Hontiveros ang pag-aaral ng scientist na si Dr. Giovanni Tapang na nagbunyag na ang reclamation ng mahigit sa 38,000 hectares, o 26,232 hectares dito – na nasa dalampasigan ng Manila Bay – ay magdudulot ng panganib hindi lamang sa kalikasan kundi maging sa food supply ng bansa.

Ayon daw kay Tapang, ang 38,000 hectares ng seagrass ay permanenteng mawawala, (pati na mangroves) na pinangingitlugan at nagsisilbing nursery ng marine animals. Ito raw ay magreresulta sa permanenteng pagkawala ng mula 4-7 bilyong lamang-dagat at mula 3- 78 trilyong isda.

Samantala, sinuspindi kamakailan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang lahat ng reclamation projects sa Manila Bay maliban sa isa na hindi pinangalanan. Nagpasalamaat si Hontiveros sa pagkilos ng Pangulo.

Idiniin niya na hindi dapat aprubahan ng gobyerno ang anumang proyekto na sangkot ang state-owned companies ng China.

Ito ay dahil din sa paulit-ulit na harassment sa ating mga barko at paglabag ng China sa soberanya ng bansa.

Nababala rin kamakailan si Sen. Raffy Tulfo na maaaring marami sa 3,000 Chinese nationals na nagtatrabaho sa Manila Bay reclamation ay espiya ng China, kaya nanganganib ang ating seguridad.
