THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has mobilized emergency response teams and volunteers across Luzon to provide life-saving assistance as continuous heavy rainfall from the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat, triggers widespread flooding.
PRC personnel are delivering critical rescue, medical, food, welfare, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) support to impacted communities.
Disaster assessments are ongoing across Luzon provinces and the National Capital Region (NCR) to address immediate emergency needs.
As of August 11, PRC emergency responders have assisted 113 individuals and rescued 32 residents stranded by floodwaters.
To address urgent health concerns, safety teams established 42 first aid stations, treated 57 people, and deployed seven ambulances to high-risk zones.
Mass feeding and relief efforts have supplied 5,071 hot meals and 3,125 packs of bread to displaced families.
Welfare teams reached 626 individuals through Child-Friendly Spaces, while health workers distributed 189 doses of medicine, handed out over 1,300 informational materials, and conducted health sessions for 935 people.
Additionally, WASH teams provided hygiene promotion to 402 individuals, clean bottled water to 225 people, and essential hygiene kits to 60 individuals.
Over 570 staff members and volunteers remain deployed, backed by local chapters actively monitoring weather developments.
“We are closely monitoring the situation, and our teams are ready to move wherever assistance is needed,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon. “Our priority is to make sure that people affected by Habagat receive timely support, especially during the critical hours of heavy rain and flooding.”
The Red Cross urges residents in flood-prone areas to monitor official advisories, avoid navigating flooded roads or waterways, and comply promptly with local evacuation orders.
