Angat dam surpasses minimum operating level as heavy rains push elevation to 183.78 meters

RECENT widespread rainfall has significantly bolstered water reserves at Angat Dam, bringing its elevation to 183.78 meters as of 9:00 AM on August 17, 2026.

This marks a critical recovery, officially pushing the reservoir above its 180-meter Minimum Operating Level after weeks of severely depleted reserves.

While the rising water level offers immediate relief, water authorities caution that steady replenishment throughout the remainder of the rainy season is essential to establish an adequate cushion for the upcoming dry period.

The ongoing recovery remains vital as DOST-PAGASA projects El Niño conditions to persist—and potentially intensify—in the tropical Pacific through early 2027.

The climate phenomenon threatens below-average rainfall in the coming months, making maximum reservoir buildup during the current wet season imperative for long-term water security.
