LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II personally inspected participating gas stations in Metro Manila on the first day of the implementation of the ₱12-per-liter fuel discount for public utility vehicles (PUVs).
According to Mendoza, participating gas stations have responded positively to the implementation of the fuel discount, although some stations are still making adjustments to accommodate the program.
“We instructed our Regional Directors that starting today, we are implementing the ₱12 discount, and some gas stations are still adjusting their procedures for its implementation,” Mendoza said.
Under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, the LTFRB is continu ing to monitor the program to ensure that the fuel discount is properly implemented and remains accessible to drivers.
“That is why we are going around the National Capital Region, while our other officials are monitoring in their respective regions to validate the implementation of the ₱12 discount. So far, everything is okay, and we have not received any negative reports,” the LTFRB chief added.
Under the program, each qualified driver may receive a fuel discount of up to 150 liters, or ₱1,800, per week.
Mendoza’s personal monitoring is part of the agency’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of the program reach PUV drivers who are qualified to receive the assistance.
“We have an inter-agency working group that is monitoring the program so we can gather feedback and determine whether there are problems or questions regarding its implementation,” Mendoza said.
The fuel discount is among the programs being implemented by the DOTr and LTFRB, in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK), to provide assistance and relief to the public transportation sector amid continued increases in fuel prices.
