THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) collected more than ₱2 trillion in taxes from January to July 2026, exceeding its target for the period by ₱13.53 billion, the agency said Thursday.
The BIR reported total collections of ₱2.003 trillion for the first seven months of the year, surpassing its ₱1.990-trillion goal by 0.68%.
The amount was also ₱102.60 billion higher than the collection recorded during the same period last year, representing a 5.4% year-on-year increase.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza said the agency has already achieved about 60% of its full-year collection target for 2026, which he attributed to improving taxpayer compliance and sustained collection efforts by revenue regions, Revenue District Offices, and the Large Taxpayers Service.
Mendoza said the bureau remains focused on making tax administration more accessible, fair, and efficient.
“We remain guided by the President’s directive to make government services more accessible to taxpayers, and by Secretary Frederick Go’s direction to make tax administration fairer and more efficient for businesses and investors,” he said.
For July alone, the BIR recorded ₱
July collections also increased by ₱19.41 billion from the same month in 2025, translating to a 5.73% year-on-year growth.
Mendoza said the latest figures demonstrate the impact of improved taxpayer services, clearer tax rules, and stronger enforcement efforts in encouraging compliance.
“These results show that better taxpayer service, clearer rules, and effective enforcement can support stronger compliance and collection,” he said.
The BIR is implementing its BIR DARES five-point reform agenda, which includes simplifying tax rules and procedures, expanding digital services, improving taxpayer assistance, strengthening audit safeguards, and enforcing tax laws against deliberate noncompliance.
The bureau said the reforms are intended to improve voluntary compliance while protecting the government’s revenue base.
“We will continue helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, while making sure that taxes properly due are collected fairly and efficiently,” Mendoza said.
