Anak ni Acop wagi sa Antipolo special election

NANALO ang anak ng namayapang si Antipolo City 2nd District Representative Romeo Acop na si Dr. Philip Acop sa isinagawang special election ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) at uupo sa nabakanteng puwesto ng kaniyang ama.

Iprinoklama si Acop bilang bagong kinatawan ng ikalawang distrito ng Lungsod ng Antipolo kung saan nakamit nito ang isang landslide victory, Marso 14, 2026.

Sa isang panayam, pinasalamatan ni Acop ang 60,051 na bumoto at sumuporta sa kaniyang kandidatura sa katatapos na espesyal na halalan.

Nakakuha ng sumusunod na boto ang mga katunggali ni Acop: Llaga 12,054; Cafirma 199; Infante 412; Lobogas 754 at Tapales 10,080.

Sinabi pa ni Acop na isang manggagamot, sa kaniyang victory speech na dahil sa kaniyang pagkapanalo, tiniyak nito na muling maririnig sa kongreso ang boses ng kaniyang mga ka-distrito na dating kinakatawan ng kaniyang namayapang ama.

“Sa mga lumabas kagabi at sumuporta, maraming salamat. Ngayong gabi meron na ulit boses ang distrito sa kongreso. At asahan po ninyo na baon ko ang inyong hirap at pangarap sa kongreso at hindi ko kayo papahiyain,” pahayag ni Acop.

Si Philip Conrad ‘Dok Bong’ Acop, na isang pediatrician, ay isang three-term city councilor ng Antipolo City kung saan nanguna ito sa 2016 at 2019 eleksyon.

Mahigpit na naging kalaban ni Acop si Reden ‘Red’ Llaga, na dati nang kumandidato ngunit bigo na maging city councilor at nitong 2025 ay nilampaso ni Jun Ynares sa pagka-alkalde.

Sa Lunes, Marso 16, si Acop ay manunumpa kay Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares III sa isang inhandang seremonya.

Kasalukuyang city councilor naman si Irvin Paulo ‘Paui’ Tapales, kung saan naging tampok sa kaniyang kampaniya ang kamakailang pagkapasado nito bilang bagong abogado sa 2025 bar exams.

Isa ring abogado si Nathaniel ‘Atty. Nat’ Lobigas, isang independent candidate at naging administrative law judge ng Securities and Exchange Commission mula 1997 hanggang 2000.

Isang entrepreneur, animal welfare advocate at dating bise-presidente ng Antipolo chapter ng Against Crime and Terrorism–Philippine Support Group (Act-PSG) si Maria Trinidad ‘Baby’ Galang Cafirma.

Independent candidate rin si Dandin ‘Dan’ Infante, na isang HR consultant, undergraduate degree sa sociology ngunit may master’s degree sa business administration sa Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

Ang nasabing espesyal na eleksyon ay isinagawa at pinangasiwaan ng Comelec upang punan ang nabakanteng posisyon ng namayapang Romeo Acop at tapusin ang natitirang panahon hanggang sa matapos ang termino sa ika-20th Kongreso.

Natulog sa kamatayan si Rep. Romeo Acop noong Disyembre 20, 2025 matapos atakehin sa puso habang nagpapagaling sa katatapos na kidney transplant.
