KANSELADO na ang planong merger o pagsasanib ng Development Bank of the Philippines at Land Bank of the Philippines.
Ito ay ayon kay Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, dahil magkaiba raw ang mandato ng LandBank at DBP at mas makapaglilingkod sila sa kani-kanilang kliyente kapag naririyan silang pareho.
“Their mandates are totally different. So, I think we are better off with two of them,” ayon kay Recto kahapon.
Matatandaang ang merger ay plano ng noo’y Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno noong Marso 2023, at matitira na lamang dito ang LandBank.
“It’s not pushing through because basically there is no benefit gained from combining the two institutions. We have separate mandates and it’s best for the country that both institutions remain independent, pursuing their separate mandates,” ayon kay DBP President at CEO Michael de Jesus, nitong Peb. 12.
Kung natuloy ang merger, ito’y ay lilikha ng pinakamalaking bangko sa bansa, base sa assets nito. Ang pinagsamang assets ng dalawang bangko ay umabot sa P4.185 trillion at deposit base na ₱3.588 trillion.
