Dec. 31 deadline sa PUV consolidation, tuloy – LTFRB

Tuloy ang deadline ng public utility vehicle (PUV) consolidation sa katapusan ng 2023, ito ay ayon sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Matapos ang pakikipagpulong ng ahensya sa mga kinatawan ng PISTON at iba pang transport groups, pumayag si LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III na payagan pa ring ng bumiyahe ang
tradisyunal na jeepney sa 2024 basta ito’y road worthy.

Ilan pa sa mga kahilingan ng transport groups na napagbigyan na ng LTFRB:

  1. Ginawang simple ang requirements o mga kahilingan sa consolidation, kailangang na
    lamang ang orihinal na kopya ng official receipt at certification of registration, gayundin
    ang petition for consolidation;
  2. Pinayagan na ang 2-3 transport cooperatives sa isang ruta;
  3. Inalis na ang penalties; at,
  4. Pwede na ring magtayo ng transport coops kahit kulang sa 15 ang yunit bawat coop.

Nilinaw din ng LTFRB na kailangang munang bumuo ng transport coop ang mga miyembro ng transport groups, hindi mandatory o sapilitan ang pagbili ng modern jeeps, at bilang pagsunod sa
utos ng Pangulo, wala munang jeepney phaseout.

Samantala, sinabi ni Celine Pialago-Vargas, spokesperson ng LTFRB na gustong bigyang linaw ng transport group ang tila masalimuot na scenario sa management ng cooperative, partikular kung magkano talaga ang membership fee at ang kawalan daw ng proteksyon ng mga miyembro nito, sakaling sibakin sila ng pamunuan ng coop.

Idinagdag pa ni Vargas na ini-refer na ng LTFRB kay OTC Chair Andy Ortega dahil wala sa kanilang kapangyarihan ang concerns na ito.
