INILABAS kahapon ng PLDT Inc. wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. (PLDT-Smart) ang
kaunaunahang prepaid SIM na may “embedded subscriber identity module” or e-SIM na
kumbenyenteng magagamit sa local data, at call and text services.


Nauna nang inilabas ang e-SIM noong 2021 para sa postpaid subscribers ng Smart.


Ayon kay Francis Flores, hepe ng Wireless Consumer Business-Individual, Smart, ang digital version daw ng physical SIM card ay mas mabilis at hassle-free, mas secured, at hindi na kailangang mag-insert ng physical na SIM card sa digital devices.


Compatible ang Smart Prepaid e-SIM sa pinakabagong mobile phones ng Apple, Google, Huawei at Samsung, maging ang tablets at smartwatches.
