Wasteworkers, protektahan ang karapatan

HINILING ni Deputy House Speaker at Las Piñas City Rep. Camille Villar nitong Lunes, na ipasa na ang panukalang batas na magbibigay proteksyon sa kalusugan, pati na rin tulong-pinansiyal sa wasteworkers sa buong bansa.

Sa ilalim ng House Bill (HB) 9806 o “An Act Establishing the Waste Workers Health and Welfare Act Program”, inaatasan nito ang Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) na pangalagaan ang karapatan at kapakanan ng wasteworkers sa buong Pilipinas.

Ang “wasteworker” ay tumutukoy sa mga taong nangungolekta, nagbibiyahe, nagpo-proseso, at nagdi-dispose ng solid waste. Kasali rito ang garbage collectors o basurero, waste pickers, recyclers, at landfill o dumpsite workers.

Dapat daw kilalanin ang kritikal na papel ng wasteworkers sa buong bansa sa kanilang kontribusyon sa pagpapanatili sa kalinisan at kaayusan ng ating komunidad, ayon pa kay Villar.

Pagkakalooban sila ng health coverage, mga benepisyo, occupational safety training, personal protective equipment, educational and financial assistance, atbp. Magkakaroon ng official database ang lahat ng wasteworkers na sakop ng programa.

Matatamo rin nila ang libreng taunang check-ups, bakuna, tulong-pinansiyal sa pagpapaospital at health package sa ilalim ng PhilHealth.
