4 Million seniors, tatanggap na ng social pension

INIANUNSYO ng National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) nitong Biyernes na apat
na milyong indigent seniors lamang ang makatatanggap ng ₱1,000 buwanang social
pension simula ngayong Enero.


Nilinaw ni NCSC chair Frank Quijano na hindi sakop ng benepisyo ang lahat ng seniors.


Pasok lamang sa social pension ang senior citizen na indigent, sakitin, may
kapansanan, walang permanenteng pension o hanapbuhay, at walang suporta mula sa
mga kamag-anak.


Ayon sa datos ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), mayroon
lamang 4,080,000 indigent senior citizens, mula sa kabuuang bilang na mahigit 12
milyon sa buong bansa.

“Kung wala po kayong retirement at wala kayong regular na suporta, you are entitled
to being called an ‘indigent’ senior citizen and therefore pwede pong makatanggap…
ng 1,000 na simula ng January,” ayon kay Quijano.

Sa ngayon, ang pagbibigay ng social pension para sa senior citizens na sakop ng batas
ay ginagawa ng DSWD, habang hindi pa naililipat ang tungkuling ito sa NCSC.

“Sumulat pa tayo December last year na tayo ay ready na – sa lahat ng regional
offices, pwede nang maging bahagi sa distribution process,” pagtatapos ni Quijano.
