COMELEC, Kakasuhan ang mga Guro, Pulis na hindi naglingkod sa BSKE

NANGAKO ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) na kakasuhan nila ang libo-libong guro at
pulis na pulis na biglaang umatras sa election duty nitong Oktubre 30.


Dahil sa kanilang pag-atras, nabimbin ang Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections sa
maraming lugar sa bansa.


Ayon kay Comelec Chair George Garcia, kasong kriminal at administratibo ang kanilang ihahain
laban sa mga nabanggit na kawani ng gobyerno.


Ayon sa Section 261 ng Omnibus Election Code, mahigpit na pinagbabawalan ang bawat
miyembro ng Election Inspector at Canvasser Board na lumiban sa aknilang tungkulin, na
magreresulta para hindi nila magawa ang kanilang atas at maaantala ang eleksyon sa lugar na
kung saan sila ay nakatalaga.

“Okay lang magwithdraw prior [to election day] kasi naiintindihan naman po namin na hindi
mandatory ang election day service. Pero, kung halimbawa, ikaw na na-train na, pagkatapos
nagkagastos-gastos na kami, tapos on the day of the election, bigla ka magwi-withdraw. Worse,

Something is wrong with that,” saad ni Garcia Nasa 2,530 guro umano ang umatras sa kanilang voluntary election day service sa iba’t-ibang lugar sa bansa, lalo na sa Bangsa­moro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
