Smuggled sugar, P70/kilo sa Kadiwa

SA HALIP na dumaan sa bidding, ibebenta na lamang ang mga smuggled na asukal sa
Kadiwa stores sa bansa.

Ayon sa DA o Department of Agriculture, may 4,000 metric tons ng smuggled na asukal na
nagmula sa Thailand ang ibebenta na sa Kadiwa outlets.


Natanggap na ng DA mula sa Bureau of Customs ang shipment na kinumpiska sa Batangas
Port noong Abril. Ang asukal ay na-clear na para sa donasyon ayon sa guidelines ng Sugar
Regulatory Administration, gayon din ang probisyon ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Ayon sa Presidential Communications Office (PCO), ibebenta ang asukal sa halagang P70
bawat kilo. Ito raw ay mas mababa kaysa P86-P110 per kilo ng refined sugar sa merkado.

Samantala, noong Hulyo 15, ilang shipping container vans ang natuklasan ng BoC na
naglalaman ng smuggled refined sugar sa Manila International Container Port.

Ito rin ay ido-donate sa Kadiwa stores para maging stable ang presyo ng asukal.
