Japan, magpapadala ng ‘aircraft carrier’ sa PH naval drill

MAGPAPADALA ng “aircraft carrier” ang Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force sa
darating na naval drill sa susunod na linggo South China Sea, ayon sa Kyodo News.

Bagamat tinawag ito ng Japan at US na “destroyer”, ayon sa ilang maritime experts,
ang 26,500-ton na barkong Izsumo class ay isang maliit na aircraft carrier dahil
nagkakarga ito ng 28 vertical take-off 5 th -generation F-35 warplanes at pitong
helicopters. Tinawag lamang itong “destroyer” dahil labag sa konstitusyon ng Japan na
magkaroon ng aircraft carrier.


Ang Royal Australian Navy ay magpapadala ng amphibious assault ship na Canberra,
samantalang ang US Navy, ang 45,593-ton USS America, na may kargang F-35B
Lightning II, MV-22B Osprey, CH-53K King Stallion, UH-1Y Venom, at iba pang
sophisticated na aircraft.


Ang naval exercise ay bunsod ng patuloy na tensyon sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas.
Ito’y matapos bombahin ng tubig ng China Coast Guard ang maliit na sasakyang
pandagat ng Pilipinas kamakailan, habang magre-resupply sana sa BRP Sierra Madre
sa Ayungin Shoal.

Samantala, nilinaw ni AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. na handa nang
sumali ang Pilipinas sa joint drill sa South China Sea, kasama ang tatlong bansa.
Ito’y bunsod nang lumabas na balita na hindi raw sasali ang Pilipinas sa naval drill.


Ayon pa sa balita, “kinansela” daw ng Pilipinas ang pagsali sa joint drill dahil ang mga
sasakyang panghimpapawid ng tatlong iba pang bansa ay masyadong malalaki para
maka-landing sa ating barkong pandigma.


“Hindi po totoo ‘yun na nag-decline tayo. Actually, ang ibig po nilang sabihin is that hindi
tayo nag-commit ng barko (na paglalandingan ng aircraft),” paliwanag pa ni Brawner.
