THE Municipality of Pateros recently came alive with energy and community spirit as it celebrated Elderly Filipino Week, highlighting active aging, community recognition, and enhanced government support for its senior citizens.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Older Filipinos: Valued and Respected, With Rights, a Voice, and Contributions to the Nation,” the celebration kicked off with the Senior Citizens Sports Tournament and Sports Fest at the Pateros Elementary School Gym.

Proving that age is no barrier to fun, fitness, and friendly competition, participants engaged in traditional Filipino games and recreational activities.

Standout performers claimed top honors across various events:

  • Chess: Alex Rondina (Champion), Fidel Balidio (2nd), Wilfredo Analista (3rd)
  • Darts: Edwin Marcelino (Champion), Ariel Montesclaro (2nd), Elmer Reyes (3rd)
  • Billiards: Arnold Dollente (Champion), Nicasio L. Montes (1st Runner-Up), Venancio Tolentino (2nd), Joselito H. Santos (3rd)

The sports events were spearheaded by Mayor Gerald German, Sports Development Officer Bojic Raymundo, Local Youth Development Officer Ryan Millares, and OSCA Chairperson Nora Masinas, with special sponsorship from Renan Roque of Goodshot Billiards and support from Vice Mayor Carlo Santos.

Beyond sports, the celebration featured civic milestones.

OSCA led a weekly flag-raising ceremony, which included handing over filing cabinets to all 10 barangays to improve document organization.

The event was graced by National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Commissioner Gloria Mercado and Acting Project Development Officer Alain C. Famacion.

Notably, Mayor German was recognized at the 4th Annual Stakeholders Conference for his steadfast dedication to elderly welfare.

Reaffirming this commitment, the local government also distributed third-quarter allowances to senior citizen officers to honor their continued leadership in community programs.

Through these comprehensive initiatives, Pateros continues to champion a productive, respected, and active older generation.
