FOLLOWING the recent phreatomagmatic eruption of Taal Volcano, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Batangas Chapter has expanded its emergency response efforts, moving swiftly from protective gear distributions to delivering vital food relief for displaced families.
On the morning of October 9, 2026, PRC response teams deployed to the PAGCOR Socio-Civic Center in Barangay Pansipit, Agoncillo, Batangas.
There, workers and volunteers prepared and served freshly cooked, nutritious hot meals to 143 individuals currently taking temporary shelter at the evacuation center.
Highlighting the urgency of the mission, PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon emphasized the importance of immediate care during crises.
“Providing warm, freshly prepared meals immediately following a volcanic eruption brings much-needed comfort and relief to families forced from their homes. Our teams will continue to stand by our communities every step of the way,” he stated.
PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang also praised the boots-on-the-ground efforts, noting, “We commend our chapter staff and volunteers for their tireless service on the ground.”
The successful relief operation underscores the continued dedication of PRC personnel, local volunteers, and partner agencies as they work around the clock to support communities affected by the volcanic unrest.
