NCRPO debunks fake news on cops’ work schedule, reaffirms high visibility across Metro Manila

THE National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) firmly refuted circulating social media claims alleging a new “one-week duty, two-weeks off” work arrangement and an eight-hour shift policy, declaring the reports entirely false and fabricated.

In a statement, the regional police force clarified that these viral claims do not reflect any officially implemented policy.

Existing welfare programs and work arrangements remain fully in place, with current leadership actively focused on their proper execution.

Guided by its core operational framework of Prepare, Prevent, Respond, the NCRPO assured the public of sustained, high-visibility deployments and prompt incident response across the metropolis.

The controversy arose after unofficial text posts and infographics spread across public Facebook groups, online forums, and X accounts.

The viral posts alleged that Metro Manila officers would receive two consecutive weeks off after working just one week, sparking public concern over potential gaps in community safety.

These misleading narratives distorted previous administrative discussions regarding officer fatigue and shift lengths.

In June 2025, Philippine National Police Chief General Nicolas Torre III had discussed transitioning personnel from demanding 12-hour shifts toward humane 8-hour workdays—aligning closer to standard labor practices—subject to ground commanders’ operational assessments.

However, online purveyors weaponized these past discussions, conflating them with the false “two-weeks off” claim.

The rumor gained rapid traction following a major regional leadership transition.

On August 23, 2026, PBGen. Christopher Nortez Abrahano assumed leadership as the new Officer-in-Charge of the NCRPO following the retirement of PMGen. Anthony Aberin.

Exploiting the shift in command, bad actors framed the fabricated schedule as an immediate policy change under the new chief.

Addressing the regional force during his first Monday flag-raising ceremony, PBGen. Abrahano emphasized continuous learning, resilience, and operational readiness.

The NCRPO strongly condemned the spread of misleading claims and urged both the public and police personnel to rely exclusively on official channels for accurate information.
