TESDA, OWWA nag-collab para sa pagpapalawak ng skills training, certification ng OFWs

NAGKASUNDO ang Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) at ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) upang palawakin pa ang programa kaugnay sa skills development, assessment, certification at integration services para sa mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) at mga kapamilya nito.

Ang nasabing kasunduan ay nilagdaan nina Secretary Kiko Benitez ng TESDA at Administrator PY Caunan ng OWWA kasabay ng isinagawang free competency assessment ng 63 OFWs sa Massage Therapy NC II sa OFW Global Training Center sa ilalim ng Overseas Assessment Program (OAP) sa Hong Kong noong Hunyo 6 at 7, 2026.

Ang OAP, na inilunsad noong 2014 ay na-institutionalize sa pamamagitan ng implementing guidelines na inilabas noong 2016 at inamyendahan noong 2019, at naglalaan ng free competency assessment at certification services sa mga OFW sa bansa kung saan sila nagtatrabaho.

Ang nasabing collaboration na ipinatupad ng OWWA at Department of Labor and Employment sa pamamagitan ng Philippine Overseas Labor Office ay isang programang ipinatupad nito lamang Mayo 31, 2026.

Ayon sa TESDA, nakapagsagawa na sila ng assessment sa 10,468 OFWs mula nang pinasimulan ito kung saan 9,054 sa mga ito ay nakatanggap ng certification, na nagresulta sa 86.49% certification rate.

Sa ilalim ng bagong kasunduan, magtatatag ng coordinated mechanism ang TESDA at OWWA para sa OFW profiling, referrals, skills training, assessment at certification, scholarship support, data sharing, at systems integration.

Isasagawa rin ang joint program implementation sa pamamagitan ng kanilang mga regional offices, migrant centers at iba pang mga pasilidad sa ibayong dagat.

Sinabi pa ng mga opisyales kapuwa ng TESDA at OWWA na umaasa sila na ang pagtutulungang ito ay magpapatibay pa sa reintegration at workforce development program ng pamahalaan habang nakatingin sa long-term support sa economic at professional development ng mga manggagawang Filipino sa buong daigdig.
