Naaresto ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang isang 37-anyos na South Korean national na wanted sa kanyang bansa dahil sa pagpapatakbo ng malawakang operasyon ng ilegal na online gambling.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Lee Jonghak, na nadakip noong Martes ng umaga, Abril 14, sa isang subdivision sa Pamplona Dos, Las Piñas City. Ang operasyon ay pinangunahan ng BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) sa pakikipagtulungan ng Korean National Police Agency at PNP–Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG).

Si Lee ay mayroong Interpol Red Notice na inisyu noong 2025 base sa arrest warrant mula sa Incheon District Court sa South Korea. Nahaharap siya sa kasong paglabag sa National Sports Promotion Act.

Ayon sa imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad sa Korea, mula noong Agosto 2021, pinaniniwalaang pinatakbo ni Lee at ng kanyang grupo ang hindi bababa sa 23 ilegal na online gambling websites.

Kabilang sa kanilang operasyon ang sports betting at casino-style games, recruitment ng mga miyembro at mamamahala sa financial transactions.

Tinatayang umabot sa mahigit 350 bilyong won (mahigit P15 bilyon) ang kabuuang kinita ng sindikato, habang ang grupo ni Lee ay kumita umano ng hindi bababa sa 5.33 bilyong won.

Lumabas sa ulat na nagsilbing assistant manager si Lee na humawak sa iba’t ibang operational teams na binubuo ng humigit-kumulang 300 empleyado.

Bagama’t dumating sa Pilipinas si Lee noong 2024 bilang isang probationary permanent resident, agad siyang inilagay sa blacklist at watchlist ng BI bilang isang “undesirable alien” at “fugitive from justice” matapos matukoy ang kanyang mga kaso sa ibang bansa.
