Tech-voc job placement reaches 81%, Marcos highlights pathways for graduates

TECHNICAL-vocational education in the country continues to deliver strong employment outcomes, with job placement rates for graduates now reaching 81 percent, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced during his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Highlighting government efforts to upskill various sectors, President Marcos pointed to targeted initiatives such as the Tsuper Iskolar and En-TSUPER-neur programs, which equip transport workers and drivers with practical livelihood skills.

In addition, a joint effort between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to train over 10,000 farmers and fisherfolk nationwide in new skills to boost their economic opportunities.

Central to these workforce developments is the integration of technical-vocational tracks into Senior High School (Grades 11 and 12) through the “Tech-Pro” program.

Marcos described the framework as progressive and ladderized, providing students with immediate job prospects while leaving open pathways to higher education.

Under this system, graduates earning a National Certificate (NC) from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training can use it as a building block toward a full degree.

“For example, Senior High School students who take Electrical Installation and Maintenance can eventually pursue Electrical Engineering,” Marcos explained.

“Similarly, those who take Caregiving can transition into a degree in Nursing.” He added that college graduates can likewise obtain an NC to learn new trades or launch entrepreneurial ventures.

To support prospective students, DOLE and TESDA have released comprehensive details on available TVET programs, application guidelines, and training center locations.

Marcos also commended the digitalized “TESDA Passport,” noting that modern tools are streamlining access and aiding workers across the country.
