Cyanide fishing sa Scarborough, iimbestigahan

SINABI ng BFAR nitong Peb. 26 na nagtalaga sila ng legal at technical team para imbestigahan ang cyanide fishing sa Scarborough shoal o Bajo de Masinloc.

“Ang inisyal nating ginagawa ay magkaroon [na]ng pagkalap ng mga opisyal na pahayag doon sa mga mangingisda, mga sworn statement, para magamit natin[g] basehan,” ayon kay Nazario Briguera, spokesperson ng BFAR o Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Sinabi ng mga mangingisdang Pilipino na gumagamit ng cyanide sa pangingisda ang mga banyagang mangingisda na labis na nakapinsala sa lagoon.

“Bukas po kami sa pakikipagbalikatan sa iba pang ahensya ng pamahalaan, mga research institution para po talaga mapatunayan natin at magkaroon ng scientific basis itong sinasabi ng mga mangingisda,” aniya pa.

Sa kabila nito, mas maraming mga Pilipino ang nangingisda sa Scarborough shoal, ayon kay Nazario, “Kumpara natin nung nakaraang misyon na nasa 21 Filipino fishing boats lang, nitong huling misyon, nasa 44 fishing boats na ang nandoon at nakatanggap [sila] ng suporta mula sa pamahalaan.”

Samantala, nag-file si Sen. Francis Tolentino ng Senate Resolution No. 938 matapos ang napabalitang cynanide fishing ng mga Chinese at Vienamese.

“Nakakaalarma na ‘tong 21,000 acres of coral reefs na sinira, pero itong use of cyanide eh mas mabigat po ito. I now consider this as environmental terrorism,” saad Tolentino sa isang press briefing.
