MAGIGING ₱35 na ang minimum na pamasahe!

Ito ang babala ng grupong Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) kapag tuluyan nang inalis sa kalsada ang tradisyunal na jeepney.

Sinabi ni Piston national president Mody Floranda, na ito ang nakalap niyang impormas¬yon mula sa dealer ng modernized jeepney.

“Kapag nawala ang mga UV, kapag nawala ang mga jeep, batay sa ating nakuhang datos ay aabot ng ₱35 ang minimum na pamasahe,” pagdiriin ni Floranda.

Ayon sa isang pag-aaral na isinagawa ng IBON Foundation, isang NGO, malaki ang posibilidad na aabot sa 400 percent o ₱52 ang magiging minimum na pamasahe kapag tuluyan nang inalis sa kalye ang tradisyunal na jeepney.

“The worsening privatization and corporatization threatensto raise jeepney fares by 300-400 percent over the next few years,” ayon sa IBON.

Pinuna ng NGO ang Administrasyong Marcos dahil sa pagbabale-wala sa hinaing ng transport sector.

Ayon sa isang observer, masyadong minamadali ng gobyerno ang jeepney modernization program, sa harap nang matinding kakulangan ng pondo ng mga driver-operators para mag-upgrade sa modern jeepney. Dapat, inilatag muna nila ang paraan kung paano mabibigyan ng subsidiya ang operators para
makaya nila ang mahal na presyo ng modern jeepney pati na mataas na monthly amortization. Dapat din sanang ginawang staggered o hindi sabay-sabay ang deadline ng conversion.
