Agricultural Scientists, dapat makipag-partner sa Red Cross

HINIKAYAT ni Philippine Red Cross (PRC) chair Richard Gordon ang mga Agricultural scientist
ng bansa na makipag-partner sa Red Cross para labanan ang labis na kakulangan sa pagkain
pati na rin ang malnutrisyon.


Sinabi ni Gordon na araw-araw daw ay nakakasaksi siya ng “sakuna”, dahil sa lumalalang
problema sa kakulangan sa pagkain at malnutrisyon sa mga kabataan.


Sinipi niya ang 2021 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) ng National Nutrition Council
(NCC) na dalawang porsyento sa bawat pamilya ay dumaranas na kakapusan sa pagkain. Ito
ay katumbas ng mahigit sa 500,000 pamilya.


Ayon pa 2020 census ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) at UNICEF, araw-araw, 95 mga
bata ang naapektuhan ng malnutrisyon sa buong bansa.

Hiniling ni Gordon sa mga agricultural scientist sa Internal Society for Southeast Asian
Agricultural Sciences Conference nitong Nobyembre 8 sa Maynila, na makipagtulungan sila sa
humanitarian leaders, sa Red Cross, at mga pamahalaan para makipag-digma laban gutomxxx
at malnutrisyon.


Plano ng PRC na mamigay ng pagkain sa mga bata edad zero hanggang lima sa mga
mahihirap na komunidad. Kasabay nito, tuturuan din ng PRC ang mga ina kung paano
maghanda ng masustansyang pagkain at kung paano sila magkaroon nang pagkakakitaan.
