4,600 OFWs ligtas sa lindol sa Morocco

SINABI ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) noong Sabado na walang Pilipino na naapektuhan
sa lindol na yumanig sa Morocco noong Biyernes.


“We are checking on OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) conditions. There are approximately 4,600
OWFs in Morocco, 50 in Marrakech. We checked with Filcom Leader and she said they are ok,”
ayon sa ating ambassador sa Morocco na si Leslie Baja.


Ayon sa Reuters, mahigit 800 ang namatay sa 7.2-magnitude na lindol na tumama sa High Atlas
Mountains. Sa 329 na mga nasaktan, 51 raw dito ang nasa kritikal na kondisyon.


Maraming gusali ang nasira sa Marrakech, isang UNESCO heritage site.

Sa isang nayon sa Amizmiz, 60 kilometro sa timog ng Marrakech, patuloy pa ring naghahanap ng
mga nakaligtas ang rescue workers.


Samanatala, iniwan ng mga residente sa Casablanca at Rabat ang kani-kanilang tahanan at takot
bumalik dahil sa banta nang aftershocks.


Ayon sa United States Geological Survey, ito ang pinakamalakas na lindol na yumanig sa Morocco
sa loob ng 100 taon.
