Election period: Gun ban, nagsimula na

NAGSIMULA na kahapon, Agosto 28, ang tatlong buwang gun ban at police
checkpoints para sa Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) sa buong
bansa, ayon sa Comelec.


Sinabi ng Comelec o Commission on Elections, na handa na raw ang ahensya sa simula
ng election period pati na gun ban para sa BSKE elections, ayon kay John Rex
Laudiangco, tagapagsalita ng komisyon.


Ipagbabawal din ng Comelec ang pagdadala ng cash na P500,000 o higit pa simula Okt.
25 hanggang sa araw ng eleksyon, Okt. 30.


“Kapag hindi maipaliwanag ng indibidwal ang perang dala niya (P500,000 o higit pa),
ipalalagay namin na siya ay magsasagawa ng vote buying,” ayon kay Laudiangco, sa
wikang English.

Samantala, ayon kay Comelec chair George Erwin Garcia, mas mainit ang BSKE kaysa
regular elections, mas personal ito, dahil ang mga kandidato at botante ay
magkakamag-anak, magkakapitbahay at malapit na magkakakilala. Idinagdag pa niya
na hanggang Setyembre 2 lamang ang filing ng candidacy.


Kapag nakapag-file na ang kandidatura ang isang tao, siya ay isa nang kandidato at
ipinagbabawal na ng batas na mangampanya, maliban na lamang simula Okt. 19-28 –
ang opisyal na campaign period.


Ang mga botante sa 42,000 barangays sa buong bansa ay boboto ng isang barangay
chairman, pitong Sangguaniang Barangay members o Kagawad, at isang SK chair at
pitong SK members.
