PH, upper middle-income status na sa 2025

MAGIGING isang upper middle-income na bansa ang Pilipinas sa 2025.

Ito ang opisyal na pahayag ni National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary
Arsenio Balisacan noong Miyerkules.


Nasa tamang landas daw tayo kaya mababago na ang ating status – magiging isang upper middle-income ang ating bansa pagdating ng 2025, ayon kay Balicasan.


Posible raw ito dahil sa mahusay na paglago ng ating ekonomiya at ang ating doable assumptions
para sa 2023 at 2024. Ito ay kung hindi raw magkakaroon ng major disasters o external factors na muling tatama sa bansa.


Hindi nilinaw ni Balisacan kung ano-ano ang “external factors” na pwedeng maka-apekto sa
ekonomiya ng bansa.


Ayon sa datus ng World Bank (WB), ang bansa ay nasa lower middle-income status na may per
capita gross national income na US$3,950 nitong 2022.

Ayon pa sa WB, ang bansang may upper middle-income economy ay may per capita income range
na US$4,256 – US$13,205.


Inamin ni Balisacan na dapat, nakamit na raw ng bansa ang status na ito, kung hindi lang sa pag-
urong ng ating ekonomiya noong 2020. Aniya pa, ang epekto ng Covid-19 ang nagpa-urong sa
ating ekonomiya ng nine percent noong 2020.


Ipinaliwanag ni Balisacan na ang target ng gobyerno ay six to seven percent na paglago ng
ekonomiya sa taong ito, at ang ekonomiya ay dapat lumago ng 5.9 percent.
