SMNI, 30 araw na suspindido

SINUSPINDI nitong Huwebes ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Ang operasyon ng Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) sa loob ng 30 araw.

Sinabi ng NTC na ang suspensyon ay bunsod ng isang resolusyon mula sa Kongreso, na humihiling na suspindihin ang SMNI dahil sa mga paglabag sa terms and conditions ng prangkisa nito.

Kasabay ng suspension order ang isang show cause order laban sa Swara Sug Media Corporation – ang legal na pangalan ng SMNI, na kailangang sagutin sa loob ng 15 araw kung bakit hindi ito dapat patawan ng parusa.

Bahagi ng utos ng NTC, “In ordering the 30-day suspension of Swara Sug’s operations of its radio and television stations pursuant to Section 16 (n) of the Public Service Act, as amended, the NTC took cognizance of the House of Representatives’ declaration.”

Lumabag daw ang SMNI sa tatlong probisyon ng legislative franchise nito.
Ang hearing sa kaso ay gaganapin sa Enero 4, 2024.

Matatandaang ang utos ng NTC ay nagmula sa House Resolution No. 1499, na nagsasabing nilabag ng SMNI ang mga kundisyon sa prangkisa nito sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 11422.

Ayon sa principal na awtor, si PBA Party-list Rep. Margarita Nograles, sa Section 4 ng legislative franchise ng SMNI, pinipigilan nito ang network na gamitin ang istasyon para sa pagpapakalat ng kasinungalingan.

Sinabi ng isang observer na dapat naglabas ang Kongreso ng audited financial statement na nagpapatunay na hindi nga gumastos ng P1.8 bilyon o sa halagang malapit dito sa mga byahe, ang tanggapan ni Speaker Martin Romualdez, sa halip na gantihan ang network, kahit na sina Ka
Eric Celiz at Dr. Lorraine Badoy lamang ang may paglabag at hindi ang SMNI.
