GLOBE Telecom is expanding its network capabilities by collaborating with leading global smartphone manufacturers, digital platforms, and software developers to deliver satellite-to-mobile connectivity across the Philippines.
Building on its landmark regional partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink, the telecommunications provider aims to eliminate coverage dead zones and bring reliable digital services to remote and disaster-prone communities.
Through partnerships with major hardware brands—including Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, Tecno, Realme, Infinix, and Honor—Globe is optimizing device-level compatibility across various LTE-enabled smartphones.
On the software side, essential applications like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Google Maps are being tailored for satellite networks, alongside Globe’s proprietary platforms such as GlobeOne and Globe Benta.
Because Android handsets comprise the vast majority of devices on Globe’s network, deep integration within the Android ecosystem remains central to ensuring seamless performance where traditional cell towers cannot reach.
This satellite initiative directly addresses long-standing connectivity challenges in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).
Last month, Globe completed its commitment to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) by activating mobile services across 180 designated GIDA locations.
The integration of Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellites allows subscribers in these distant islands and mountainous regions to maintain uninterrupted access to critical communications during everyday use and emergency scenarios.
Globe is making the technology accessible through affordable prepaid packages. Globe Prepaid and TM customers with compatible handsets can access satellite coverage starting at ₱99 for 30 days—which includes 2 GB of data and 100 satellite texts—or opt for a 90-day plan offering 10 GB of data and 500 texts for ₱299.
“We are happy to be among the first in Asia to offer satellite-to-mobile connectivity because it suits our geography well,” said Darius Delgado, Chief Commercial Officer at Globe. “Through our partnership with Starlink and collaboration with global technology leaders, we are leveraging next-generation technology to deliver essential connectivity, even in the most challenging environments.”
