WEST Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. is entering the final stages of constructing a ₱5.8 billion primary distribution pipeline network.
Designed to bolster water security and optimize supply management across its southern coverage area, the project serves as a critical measure to mitigate the potential impact of El Niño.
Spanning a total length of 9.12 kilometers, the new distribution pipelines will establish a more extensive connection between the Poblacion Water Treatment Plant in Muntinlupa and Maynilad’s wider network.
Once fully operational, the system will enhance the utility’s capacity to redistribute water produced in southern facilities directly to high-demand communities, particularly in Muntinlupa and Las Piñas.
Beyond increasing local distribution capacity, the infrastructure upgrade will improve overall water pressure management and overall supply reliability across the southern sector.
By linking facilities more comprehensively, Maynilad gains greater operational flexibility to route available water to vulnerable areas during supply constraints.
The strategic expansion comes as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warns of strengthening El Niño conditions in the tropical Pacific, which threaten to bring below-normal rainfall, dry spells, and potential droughts.
“Investments such as this are part of our continuing effort to build a more resilient water system for the West Zone,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher Jaime T. Lichauco. “As climate conditions become more challenging, we need infrastructure that allows us to maximize available supply, manage constraints more effectively, and better support our customers during periods of tighter raw water availability.”
The project aligns with Maynilad’s broader water-security strategy, aimed at reducing dependency on a single water source.
Supplementary initiatives include tapping Laguna Lake, constructing modular treatment plants and potable water reuse facilities, expanding storage capacity, minimizing non-revenue water losses, and upgrading overall network operations.
Maynilad manages the Philippines’ largest water concession area by population served, providing water services to parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, as well as several cities across Metro Manila and Cavite Province.
