Daan-daang Pilipino, nawawala sa Hawaii wildfires

LUBHANG nababahala ang Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce (MFCC) dahil sa daan-
daang Pilipino ang nawawala sa wildfires sa Lahaina, Maui Island, Hawaii.


Mahigit 1,000 indibidwal ang nawawala pa at umabot na sa 93 ang natagpuang patay, ayon
kay Kit Zulueta Furukawa, director ng MFCC.


Ikalawa ang Filipino-Americans (Fil-Ams) sa pinakamalaking ethnic group sa Maui, umabot ito
sa 17 percent o 25,000.


Sa Buong Hawaii, mahigit 200,000 Fil-Ams ang nakatira o nagtatrabaho rito, ayon sa ating
Depatment of Foreign Affairs (DFA).


Samantala, kinumpirma ni Hawaii Fil-Am Senator Gilbert Keith Agaran, ang pagkasunog ng
maraming bahay ng mga Pilipino sanhi ng wildfire.


Ayon kay Hawaii Gov. Josh Green ang wildfire ang pinakamalaki sa kasaysayan, na
ikinasunog ng 2,200 istraktura at umabot sa US$6 bilyon ang natamong pinsala
Ayon sa The New York Times, nang isinara ang sugar plantation sa Maui noong 2016,
nagsimula nang bumilis ang pagtubo ng mga damo – guinea grass,
