Bagong Building Code, inaprubahan ng Kongreso

INAPRUBAHAN ng Kongreso noong Miyerkules sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ang House Bill
(HB) No. 8500, na naglalaman ng bagong National Building Code.


Ayon kay Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez kapag naisabatas, magbibigay ito ng
proteksyon sa publiko laban sa maraming panganib gaya ng sunog, lindol, bagyo atbp. nang
higit kaysa sa proteksyong ibinibigay ng kasalukuyang batas.


Idinagdag pa niya na ang dating building code, ang PD No. 1096, ay itinakda noong 1977, o
mahigit 46 taon, sa ilalim pa ng noo’y Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Sr.


Magmula raw noong 1997, marami ng mga pagbabago sa building standards, teknolohiya,
pagbabago ng klima, at “risk reduction and management”… Ang isang buhay na ating
maililigtas ay mas mahalaga kayasa oras, pera, at pagsisikap, para mabago natin ang ating
building law na kaagapay ng pinakamahuhusay sa mundo”, pagdiriin ng Speaker.

Ang bill ay pinagsamasamang 10 magkakatulad na panukala, dalawa sa awtor nito ay sina
Rep. Romeo Momo Sr. ng Surigao del Sur at Rep. Salvador Pleyto Sr. ng Bulacan, na
parehong dating undersecretaries ng Department of Public Works and Highways.


Ayon kay Pleyto, hindi dapat masira ang ating mga gusali kahit na sa magnitude 8 na lindol.
