Bumaba sa 7.9 milyong Pilipino ang nagsabing wala silang trabaho sa ikatlong kwarter ng 2023, ayon sa survey ng Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Ito ang naitala na pinakamababang bilang ng mga walang trabaho magmula noong 2017.

Ayon sa SWS survey na isinagawa magmula Setyembre 28 hanggang Oktubre 1, ang mga adult na walang trabaho ay 16.9 percent ng labor force, o yaong naghahanap pa ng trabaho.

Samantala, ang antas ng unemployment at underemployment rates ay 15.4 percent, sa edad 15- anyos pataas. Mas maraming mga babae ang nasa bahay lamang o walang trabaho na nasa 21 percent, habang 14 percent lamang sa mga kalalakihan.

Inaasahan ng economic managers ng gobyerno na patuloy na bubulusok ang unemployment rate sa bansa simula sa unang kwarter ng 2024 kapag sinimulan na ang mga proyekto ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na nagkakahalaga ng P882.2 bilyon — at sa mga susunod na kwarter — pati na rin mga negosyong nakuha ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., sa Amerika at ibang bansa.
