Pambobomba ng tubig ng China sa barko ng ‘Pinas, kinondena ng US

MARIING kinondena ng United States ang China sa ginawa nitong pagharang at pambomba
ng tubig sa barko ng Pilipinas sa Ayungin Shoal (Second Thomas Shoal) sa West Philippine
Sea (WPS) noong Agosto 5.


Ang barko ng Pilipinas ay magdadala sana ng supply sa ating mga sundalo sa barkong Sierra
Madre na nasa Ayungin shoal pero nabigo ito dahil sa harassment ng China Coast Guard
(CCG) at militia.


Sa opisyal na pahayag noong Linggo, sinabi ng US State Department (USSD) na suportado
nito ang Pilipinas matapos ang mapanganib na aksyon ng CCG sa WPS.


Sinabi pa ng USSD na ang pambobomba ng tubig at mapanganib na pagmamaniobra para
harangin ang barko ng Pilipinas ay panghihimasok sa kaparatan ng bansa sa “freedom of
navigation” at nagsapanganib ng buhay ng mga tripulante ng barko.

Idiniin ng US na ang China ay walang legal na kaparatan sa Second Thomas Shoal dahil ito ay
bahagi ng exclusive economic zone ng Pilipinas.


Inaangkin ng Beijing ang halos buong South China Sea, at binalewala ang 2016 na utos ng
Permanent Court of Arbitration na pumabor sa Pilipinas, at ang pag-aangkin ng China ay
walang anumang legal na basehan, ayon pa sa USSD.


Nagbabala ang Washington na anumang pag-atake sa barko, eroplano, at hukbong militar –
pati na coast guard – ay magpapakilos sa US na depensahan ang Pilipinas sa ilalim ng 1951
Mutual Defense Treaty.
