“HIGIT pa sa malansang isda!”


Ganito tinukoy ng isang retiradong reporter ang Iriga police, matapos ikulong si Jose Rizal
Pajares (kapangalan ng bayani), radio reporter, dahil lang sa pagbuklat sa police blotter.


Pinosasan agad gaya ng isang karaniwang kriminal ang radio reporter at tatlong araw na
ikinulong sa selda ng Iriga City police station.


Sa isang interview sa Frontline News, sinabi ni Pajares, “Sabi nila nagba-violate raw ako ng
Data Privacy Act. Tapos ‘yun pina-file-an ako ng kaso…. Nakulong po ako ng tatlong araw.”


Ayon kay Pajares, pumunta siya sa Iriga City police station (Agosto 2) para maghanap ng
istorya sa police blotter. Nagpaalam daw siya sa duty officer para tingnan ang blotter, at
pumayag ito. Dahil hindi nakapag-paalam kay Police Lt. Col. Ralph Oida, sinabihan siya na
bawal daw ang kanyang ginagawa saka pinosasan at ikinulong, kahit na nag-sorry na ang
reporter.

Sinabi ni PNP Chief Benjamin Acorda na hindi bawal ang pagbuklat ng mga reporter sa
police blotter dahil ito’y public document at makikita rin online.


Ayon kay Maria Fe Mariscal, chair, KBP Camarines Sur Chapter, na walang batas na
nagbabawal sa pagtingin ng reporter sa blotter lalo na’t humingi muna ito ng permiso.

Hindi rin ito sakop ng Data Privacy Act, taliwas sa iginigiit ng pulisya.


Ayon sa National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, “Under the Data Privacy Act, the
law is not applicable to personal information for the purpose of journalism.”


Sa ngayon, pansamantalang nakalalaya si Jose Rizal dahil sa pagpiyansa at na-relieve
naman si Oida.


Ayon sa ilang reporters, dapat daw kasuhan ng KBP si Acorda ng illegal detention at
ignorance of the law, para masuspindi ito at mag-retraining.
