MCDONALD’S (McDo) fastfood chain, green-minded na? Yes po, green-minded, as in
environment-friendly o makakalikasan.


Magiging “green restaurant” na ang 25 outlets ng McDo sa buong bansa. Hindi po ibig
sabihin nito na pipintahan ng green ang kanilang resto, o magsusuot ng green mini-skirt
ang kanilang female staff.


Bilang isa sa biggest restaurant chains sa bansa, nagsimula nang gawing “green” ang
25 sa outlets ng McDo, dahil sa paglalagay ng solor-power energy source sa mga
bubong nito.


Magmula noong 1981 – nang nagsimula ang operasyon nito sa bansa – itinakda raw ng
McDo ang world-class standards, kaya lumago ito sa 700 outlets sa buong Pilipinas.


Ayon kay Kenneth S. Yang, McDonald’s Philippines president and CEO, patuloy daw
silang gumagawa ng mga pagbabago para mabawasan ang masamang epekto sa
kalikasan, isa na rito ang “green building” at ang episyenteng operasyon sa ilalim ng
“Green and Good Platform”.


Dahil dito, naibaba ng McDo sa 52,500 kilo ang carbon dioxide emissions (CO2e) dahil
sa paggamit ng environment-friendly power generators at air-conditioners, at 102,000
(H2O) litro ng tubig sa bawat restaurant, sa pamamagitan ng water harvesting system,
buwan-buwan.

Samantalang ang 25 solar-powered restaurants ay nakapagtitipid ng kabuuang 546,000
kWh o 36 percent ng kabuuang kunsumo.


Bukod pa rito, ginagawa ng McDo ang pagbabawas ng basura ng 60 percent at pag-
aalis ng straw sa mga inumin nito. Ito raw ay nakabawas ng plastic waste na 273 metric
tons bawat buwan.


Mayroon din daw “Bike and Dine” parking areas para sa mga bisekleta at charging
stations para sa gumagamit ng two-wheel electric vehicles, para mahikayat ang
customers na maging praktikal at makatulong pa sa kalikasan.


Plano ng kumpanya na madagdagan pa ang makakalikasang outlets ng 130 sangay sa
taong ito, at mas marami pa sa mga susunod na taon.
