THE San Juan City government marked Linggo ng Kasuotang Pilipino on Monday, September 21, kicking off a major highlight of its Tourism Month festivities designed to promote national identity, local heritage, and creative expression.

Led by Mayor Francis Zamora, Vice Mayor Angelo Agcaoili, and members of the City Council, the celebration gathered local government personnel, cultural partners, and tourism officials.

Among the distinguished guests present was Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Maria Christina G. Aquino, alongside Candon City Councilor Eric Owen Singson Jr., Sultan Kudarat OIC Provincial Tourism Officer Ivan Unson, local fashion designer Ehrran Montoya, producer Cheryl Ching-Sy, and Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 Dia Maté.

A main event of the day was the Linggo ng Kasuotang Pilipino Contest, where city hall employees donned traditional and modern Filipino-inspired attires on stage.

Mayor Zamora and guest dignitaries also led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open a special exhibit on Filipino fashion, art, and cultural history.

In addition to the fashion showcase, the city recognized the winners of the “Makabagong San Juan Historical and Architectural Photo Contest.”

The competition encouraged local photographers to capture the city’s historic landmarks and heritage sites through fresh, contemporary visual perspectives.

Mayor Zamora expressed his gratitude to participants and organizers, stressing the vital role of local government initiatives in keeping heritage alive for future generations.

“Let us continue to preserve and promote the rich history, architecture, arts, and cultural heritage of Makabagong San Juan,” Zamora said, emphasizing that honoring local traditions strengthens community pride and boosts municipal tourism.

The month-long Tourism Month activities aim to deepen residents’ appreciation of San Juan’s unique historical footprint while positioning the city as a vibrant center for Philippine arts, fashion, and culture.
