THE Philippine government has warmly welcomed a landmark $700-million investment from Mitsubishi Corporation into Ayala Corporation, marking one of the largest foreign equity commitments in the country in recent years.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with top executives from Mitsubishi and Ayala on October 11, 2026, at the Hilton Singapore Orchard.
Accompanied by Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go and Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque, the President underscored the government’s steadfast support for high-impact investments that fuel long-term economic transformation.
Under the agreement finalized on September 21, Mitsubishi will increase its economic stake in Ayala from 4.7% to 15%, alongside a 20% voting interest, through primary and secondary shares and a voluntary tender offer.
The deal is slated for completion by March 2027.
Of the total capital, $315 million will go directly to Ayala for debt reduction, share buybacks, and future growth initiatives.
The partnership builds upon a collaboration dating back to 1974.
Building on past ventures like the Laguna Technopark, both conglomerates are now exploring expansion along the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) connecting Subic and Clark.
Discussions also centered on accelerating smart city development, digital finance, logistics, real estate, and energy transition projects.
Furthermore, President Marcos emphasized the importance of pairing data center investments with sustainable power and water facilities, pointing to Mitsubishi’s expertise in liquefied natural gas.
Cabinet officials highlighted that robust policy frameworks—such as the CREATE MORE Act and expedited Green Lanes—will ensure seamless execution.
Trade Secretary Roque noted that the alliance exemplifies deep foreign investor confidence, while Finance Secretary Go emphasized that such partnerships generate quality employment and strengthen regional industrial capacity across the Philippines.
