LOCAL creativity took center stage as the Marikina City government formally opened a free public art exhibit featuring 56 works by 29 homegrown artists at the Marikina Heritage Building.
Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro led the unveiling of “The (He)Art of Marikina: Homegrown” on Saturday, September 12, alongside city officials, local art enthusiasts, and featured artists.
Organized by the Marikina local government unit (LGU), the showcase highlights the personal stories, memories, and artistic journeys of creatives deeply rooted in the city and neighboring communities.
The exhibition features works from a prominent lineup of local talents, including Fernando Sena, Lydia Velasco, Remy Boquiren, Marilyn V. Aquino, Marj Sula-Aquino, Dennis G. Baquial, Yolanda Batara, and Carl Vincent Bautista.
Additional contributing artists include Edgar Barrientos, Ramon B. Cañeza, Daisy Carlos, Kris Carlos, Chie Cruz, Isidora Velasco Duran, Isagani Fuentes, Esther Sevilla Garcia, Jun Lopez, Renn Magalang, Arlene Manalus, Clarisa Navidad, Luan Paras, Andy F. Pernia, Mario Bautista Panis, Marcelo C. Quezon, Gabriel Santiago, Bing Siochi, Andy “Abu” Urag, Melissa Villaseñor, and Bim Zabella.
“This exhibit is a celebration of creativity, artistic expression, and a growing community of artists brought together by a shared passion for art,” Mayor Teodoro said during the launch. “Behind each work is a person with something meaningful to share. These deserve a place in our city’s life.”
Housed inside the recently inaugurated Marikina Heritage Building, the exhibit serves as an accessible platform designed to foster connection among artists while supporting the city’s broader cultural sector.
Teodoro reaffirmed the LGU’s commitment to providing physical spaces and institutional support for local talent to thrive.
The exhibit is open to the public free of charge daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mondays through Sundays (excluding holidays), and will run until November 23, 2026.
Visitors interested in supporting the local art community also have the option to purchase displayed artworks.
