THE House of Representatives has formally affirmed the economic framework presented by the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) for the proposed ₱7.2-trillion national budget for 2027, pledging close cooperation with the Executive branch to ensure a responsive spending plan.

House Committee on Appropriations Chair Rep. Mika Suansing announced on Monday that active collaboration between Congress and the administration will be vital to converting spending priorities into tangible improvements across essential sectors, including healthcare, education, and job creation.

Suansing noted during the opening of the DBCC briefing that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. designed the proposed 2027 fiscal plan around the theme “People-Centered Growth for an Inclusive and Resilient Future.”

Quoting the President’s Budget Message, she underscored that the budget serves as a strategic investment in the Filipino people, aiming to build stronger institutions and deliver greater economic opportunities.

“Sisiguraduhin po ng inyong Kongreso na ang ₱7.2 trillion na budget ng ating bansa ay hindi lang mananatili sa papel, kundi mararamdaman sa araw-araw na buhay ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” Suansing emphasized, highlighting expected outcomes such as improved medical care, better classroom facilities, expanded employment, and upgraded farm-to-market roads.

Directly addressing participating Executive officials, Suansing assured them of the legislature’s commitment to unlocking the country’s full economic potential.

Furthermore, she urged fellow lawmakers to build upon the institutional reforms introduced during the previous fiscal year’s deliberations, which instituted significant changes to long-standing practices by boosting public participation, transparency, and fiscal accountability.

The DBCC briefing marks the official opening stage of congressional scrutiny for the 2027 national budget, where lawmakers will rigorously evaluate the national government’s macroeconomic assumptions, fiscal targets, and departmental allocation proposals.
