TO help residents and business owners combat rising electricity costs and accelerate the transition toward renewable energy, Quezon City is offering free technical assistance for rooftop solar panel installations through its dedicated hotline, Helpline 122.
The initiative connects QCitizens directly with licensed electrical engineers from the City Engineering Department.
Callers can receive expert advice on sizing their solar photovoltaic (PV) systems relative to their monthly energy consumption, understanding safety requirements, navigating building permit procedures with the Department of the Building Official, and identifying Department of Energy–accredited service providers to avoid unlicensed or fraudulent installers.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized that the program addresses a major hurdle in adopting green energy: a lack of accessible, trustworthy information.
“Quezon City has enormous potential to harness solar energy, but many QCitizens and business owners are unsure where to start. Through Helpline 122, our licensed electrical engineers are ready to guide them through the process, answer their technical questions, and help them avoid fraudulent or unlicensed installers,” Belmonte said.
The local chief executive added that making solar energy more accessible serves as a long-term investment in building a cleaner, more resilient, and sustainable city.
According to Belmonte, the helpline expansion builds on Quezon City’s aggressive public solarization efforts.
The local government has equipped seven City Hall buildings, three city-run hospitals, and 25 public schools with rooftop solar systems.
These installations generated over ₱8 million in electricity savings in the first half of 2026 alone, allowing funds to be redirected toward primary public services while shrinking the city’s carbon footprint.
Data underlines substantial potential for expansion across the city. According to the city’s Solar Penetration and Potential Market Demand Dashboard, Quezon City’s estimated electricity consumption stands at 5,787 GWh.
Equipping all viable rooftops with solar panels could yield an estimated 16,098.28 GWh—nearly three times the city’s annual power demand.
Furthermore, a study by Thinking Machines Lab, commissioned by C40 Cities, projects that widespread rooftop solar adoption could generate up to ₱40.651 billion in total savings by 2035.
