Hiwalay na social security para sa ofws – Rep. Salo

DAPAT daw magkaroon nang hiwalay at sariling social security and retirement system ang mga
overseas Filipino worker.


Ito ang ipinahayag nitong Huwebes ni Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo, chair, House
Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs sa committee hearing sa Kongreso.


Sa isang pagdinig, inilatag ni Salo ang House Bill No. 8574 (HB) na magbibigan ng
komprehensibong social protection, para matiyak ang kapakanan ng OFW.


“It would offer financial support in the event of job loss, disability, or death, providing a safety
net for OFWs and their families during challenging times… It would establish a retirement fund,
enabling OFWs to secure social and financial protection in their old age, granting them the
dignity and peace of mind they deserve,” saad ni Salo.


Pinag-usapan din sa pagdinig ng panel ang mga benepisyo at tulong na pwedeng ibigay sa mga
umuuwing OFWs na apektado ng tunggalian at sakuna sa ibang bansa.

Samantala, sinabi ng bawat kinatawan ng Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) at Overseas
Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) na mayroon ng aktibidades para tiyakin na
hinaharap ng gobyerno ang pang-matagalang kapakanan at kabuhayan ng OFWs.


Ayon kay DMW OIC Hans Leo Cacdac, ang tulong sa mga OFW ay magmumula sa P1.2
bilyong action fund na nakatalaga para sa legal, medical, at humanitarian support. Umabot na
raw sa 5,325 ang mga kwalipikadong natulungan ng ahensya magmula Abril 2023.


Ang mga benepisyaryo ay ang OFWs na naapektuhan ng lindol sa Turkey, trahedya sa Dubai at
United Arab Emirates, at Qatar, gayundin ang tunggalian sa Sudan, Lebanon, at Israel.


Sinabi naman ni OWWA Director Jocelyn Hapal, na nagbibigay ang kaniyang tanggapan ng
counseling, skills training, financial at reintegration planning.
