Suspindido ang pagtanggap ng pirma sa PI — Comelec

SINABI ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) nitong Lunes na sinuspindi muna nila ang pagtanggap ng signature sheets may kinalaman sa People’s Initiative (PI) para sa Charter change.


Sinabi ni Comelec Chair George Garcia na itinigil muna ang pagtanggap ng pirma dahil nais muna nilang ma-review ang IRR o Implementing Rules and Regulations may kaugnayan sa PI.


“The Commission en banc came up with a unanimous decision to suspend any and all proceedings concerning the People’s Initiative. Suspend muna namin lahat ng proseso
kahit ang pagtanggap ng local Comelec ng mga signature sheets,” sabi ni Garcia.


“Base sa aming assessment, kailangan namin i-review, enhance and dagdagan ang aming IRR concerning the People’s Initiative. Sa ating palagay, may mga bagay na kulang at wala sa aming guidelines,” dagdag pa ni Garcia.


Samantala, pinuri naman ni Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva ang naging desisyon ng Comelec at sinabing ito’y isang tagumpay ng taong bayan.


“Hindi pa po tapos ang laban, patuloy po tayong manalangin at magbantay para siguruhing maprotektahan ang Konstitusyon na siyang kaluluwa ng ating bayan,” ayon kay Villanueva.

Nagbigay din ng kani-kanilang pananaw ang iba pang senador, kagaya ni Senador Nancy Binay na nagsabing, “Maging mapanuri pa rin at huwag po tayong magpaloko.”

Matatandaang lahat ng 24 na senador ay lumagda sa isang manifesto nitong nakaraang linggo, na nagpapahayag nang kanilang pagtutol sa PI, na diumano’y kinasasangkutan ng panunuhol at iba pang ilegal na aktibidad.


Sinabi ni Garcia na isang panel ang magre-review ng rules, na pangunguhan ng executive director at law department director.

“At the same time, we are going to consult with everybody concerning the rules.
Kailangan maliwanag sa rules, when you say amendment, [it’s the] revision of the
entire Constitution,” dagdag pa niya.


Nakatanggap na ang Comelec ng signature sheets mula sa 209 legislative district, mula
sa kabuuang 254, na may katumbas ng halos pitong milyong pirma.
