THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has committed an initial US$100,000 (approximately ₱6.2 million) in humanitarian aid to assist communities severely impacted by widespread flooding and landslides in Nepal.
PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon announced the relief package during a meeting with the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and representatives from other National Societies.
Expressing condolences and solidarity on behalf of the Philippines, Gordon emphasized the shared experience of surviving natural disasters and the necessity of international support during crises.
In addition to financial aid, the PRC expressed its readiness to deploy personnel and technical experts to support ongoing relief operations if requested by the NRCS or the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The disaster has heavily devastated areas along Nepal’s Trishuli River corridor, damaging critical infrastructure, destroying homes, and leaving roughly 10,000 people missing.
Red Cross teams on the ground are actively assisting in search and rescue efforts while distributing emergency aid to displaced families.
This latest assistance reinforces a long-standing humanitarian partnership between the two organizations.
Following Nepal’s devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake in 2015, the PRC deployed a 13-member search and rescue team to assist in survivor retrieval and post-disaster operations, including water, sanitation, and shelter support.
